Year of the Dog
February 16th, 2018 marks the year of the Dog according to Chinese Astrology.
Each year is related to one of the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac (Dog, Pig, Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, or Rooster. The years also cycle through the elements of Earth, Wood, Fire, Water, and Metal as well as cycling through Yin and Yang years. Depending on the year you were born or the year that we are currently in, some make predictions about what the year will hold. You can explore many different aspects of the Chinese astrology such as what jobs are best suited for your animal or what other animals would be a good love connection for you. I always think it is fun to look up the aspects for the coming year and think of it like my Chinese fortune cookie for the year.
The Chinese new year is skewed from the typical New Year’s of January 1st, because it follows the lunar calendar so it falls on a different day every year between January 21st and February 20th. This year it falls on February 16th and becomes the year of the Earth Dog. The last time we had an Earth Dog year was 1958. 2017 marked the year of the Fire Rooster, and 2019 will be the year of the Earth Pig. 2018 is also a Yang year, which is very expansive in its energy so this may be a year of a lot of things happening.
It is predicted that the coming Dog year will be a good year for changes in lifestyle such as changing jobs, quitting smoking, or moving.(1) Maybe this is the year you will keep your New Year’s resolutions, or maybe it’s time to start that business you always wanted to do.
People born the year of the dog (1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006) are thought to be very talented and skilled people with are well mannered, reserved, and quiet. They are goal oriented with a great ability to reach the goals they set. They are kind and friendly, always there to lend a hand.(2) Dogs seem to have a way of making it to the top, some famous Dogs include: Elvis Presley, Uma Therman, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, David Bowie, and Prince William.
